Art on Display: Tuxedo Park School In-Person
This April and May, we'll be highlighting works from Tuxedo Park School students!
One exhibit includes artwork from fourth grade student’s Independent Reading Book Project, which focused on books from with North American social studies unit. Popular titles included My Side of the Mountain, Hatchet, and the Dear America series. The art component, inspired by graphic novels, featured panels introducing characters, describing settings, depicting key plot moments, and sharing favorite parts of the book—without spoilers.
The second exhibit features fifth grade students. These students learned about the lasting impact that industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie had on expanding the public library system of the United States and beyond. Students studied some of the 1,689 libraries he had built in the US and then chose one to represent. They began by using pencil to sketch the building, they then painted the sketch in with watercolors. Finally, they used pen and ink to outline the building details, highlighting the architecture and design of the Carnegie Libraries.
