Gilded Age Beauty: American Painters and Changing Women's Lives via Zoom In-Person

Gilded Age Beauty: American Painters and Changing Women's Lives via Zoom
Thursday, February 17th at 7 pm

Presented by Rena Tobey, Art Historian and Educator
In an era known for excess, the American Gilded Age’s expressions of beauty in art can get overlooked. From William Merritt Chase who brought Impressionism and Japanese aesthetics into full voice to Cecilia Beaux who challenged gender norms, paintings of the Gilded Age show us more than meets the eye. Come explore a time of rapid change in women's everyday lives at the turn of the 20th century, and the deeper meanings beneath the
beautiful painted surfaces.
